According to Andrew Sullivan,

you, as the CIC of the US Military, are

the single highest person to fire gays and lesbians

from their jobs. Since 1994, more than 10,000 gay and lesbian

service members have been fired because of Don’t Ask, Don’t tell.

So far there are no numbers for your first two years in office.

Consider the craziness of this. Just across the road from you is the Department

of State. Secretary Clinton has recorded a video for the project: IT GETS BETTER.

This is meant to counter the energy created by the recent suicides of young GLBTQ people. People generally are GLBTQ themselves and make the video to tell our youth that life will become better, will be fulfilling and meaningful after high school

On her video Secretary Clinton talks about the excellent work being done by GLBTQ in the State Department and about how proud she is to represent equality in employment.

I wonder if you find this embarrassing and ironic; I wonder if you consider that the Department of Defense is the one Department exempt from civil liberties. It was, I give you, a great struggle to make legitimate the place of African Americans in the Military. Many of us feel that this is the same situation, calling out for Leadership; and many of us hoped it would be you. It is the time for your action, not re-action.
